Privacy Policy

In short: LimitFoodWaste does not collect, store, or share any personal data with us or any third party. All your food inventory data stays on your devices and in your private iCloud account.

Data Storage & iCloud Sync

Your food items, storage locations, and related data are stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework. If you have iCloud enabled, your data is automatically synced across your devices through Apple's CloudKit service.

We do not operate any servers that store your data.
Your data is stored in your personal iCloud account, managed entirely by Apple.
We have no access to your iCloud data.
Apple's iCloud privacy policy governs the sync: apple.com/legal/privacy

Barcode Scanning & Product Lookup

When you scan a product barcode, the app sends the barcode number to the Open Food Facts API to look up product information (name, brand, category, weight).

Only the barcode number is sent — no personal information, no device identifiers.
Open Food Facts is a free, open-source food product database licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL).
No account or authentication is required for these lookups.

Camera

The app uses your device's camera to scan QR codes and barcodes. Camera access requires your explicit permission.

Camera data is processed entirely on your device.
No images or video are stored, uploaded, or shared.

Bluetooth

The app can connect to a Phomemo label printer via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) to print food labels.

Bluetooth is used exclusively for communicating with the label printer.
No data is transmitted to any other device or service over Bluetooth.
Bluetooth access requires your explicit permission.

Notifications

LimitFoodWaste can send local notifications to remind you about food items nearing their expiration date.

Notifications are scheduled locally on your device.
No notification data is sent to external servers.
Notification access requires your explicit permission.

Analytics & Tracking

LimitFoodWaste does not include any analytics, tracking, advertising, or crash reporting SDKs. We do not collect usage data of any kind.

Third-Party Services

The only external service the app communicates with is:

Open Food Facts API — for product barcode lookups (barcode number only, no personal data)
Apple iCloud (CloudKit) — for syncing your data across your devices (managed by Apple)

Children's Privacy

LimitFoodWaste does not knowingly collect any personal information from children. The app does not require account creation or collect any personal data.

Changes to This Policy

If we update this privacy policy, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
